Septic System Tips

Call Wolcott Sanitation Services, LLC to have an annual inspection of your septic tank to ensure it is running smoothly and efficiently.  It will ensure the longevity of your septic system.

    • Every 2 to 3 years, depending upon the size of your septic tank (about 1000 gallon tank), have your septic tank pumped by Wolcott Sanitation LLC.  For tanks smaller than 1000 gallons, the septic system should be pumped out annually.septic_tank_inspection_ct

    • Properly dispose of household waste-do not dispose of these items into your septic system.  Items that cause significant damage to your septic system include diapers, baby and adult wipes, tampons, cigarette butts, paper towels, etc.

    • Monitor the use of your garbage disposal.  If you are putting a lot of food waste into your garbage disposal, it is recommended that you have your septic tank pumped out more frequently.  Compost your kitchen waste if possible.

    • If you have a 2 compartment septic tank, both compartments need to be pumped regularly and the outlet filter MUST be cleaned.  They should both be inspected annually as well.

    • If you ignore the septic system and do not have it cleaned on a regular schedule, the sludge will build up and eventually be pushed into your drain filed and cause the septic system to fail.

    • The cost for repairing a failed septic system is much greater than the cost of regular septic system pumping.

    • Low volume toilet and shower heads will reduce the amount of water entering your septic system on a daily basis.

    • Never attach a basement sump pump to your septic system.

    • Do not plant trees or shrubs on top of your drain field.  Keep large roots away from the disposal field.
